LONDON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Aviva <A HREF="http://go.reuters.co.uk/financeQuoteLookup.jhtml?ticker=AV.L&qtype=sym&infotype=info&qcat=news">AV.L</A>, the country's biggest insurer, is expected to announce a deal to buy U.S. insurer AmerUs Group Co. <A HREF="http://go.reuters.co.uk/financeQuoteLookup.jhtml?ticker=AMH.N&qtype=sym&infotype=info&qcat=news">AMH.N</A> for about $2.9 billion (1.6 billion pounds) in cash as early as Thursday, a source close to the situation said.
